Riyadh Air: A New World-Class Airline Announced In KSA

An exciting announcement from his Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Prime Minister and Chairman of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) revealed the establishment of Riyadh Air, a new airline in the kingdom. This came shortly after announcing Al Murabba, Saudi’s new revolutionary project, fueling more excitement and seemingly endless prospects for the city of Riyadh.

It was confirmed that the new airline Riyadh Air is not to replace the existing airline Saudia, rather Saudi is set to become home to two national airlines, both serving as the kingdom’s flag carriers.

Furthermore, the second flag carrier will be led by industry veteran Tony Douglas, the former chief executive of Etihad Airways who is set to bring expertise and innovation to the airline.

The new Saudi carrier aims to to leverage the best available technologies to deliver exceptional travel experiences for all passengers, with clear intent to become a global aviation hub and to compete with other airlines in the region.

Riyadh Air will serve as Saudi Arabia’s window to the world, connecting the capital to over 100 destinations globally.

The PIF also confirmed ordering 39 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner airplanes. These aircraft are expected to show modernity, high technology standards, as well as global best practices for sustainability and safety measures.

This announcement comes as part of the PIF’s strategy to diversify the economy with promising sectors as Riyadh Air is expected to add USD20 billion to non-oil GDP growth and create more than 200,000 employment opportunities!
